Plant molecular ecophysiology

Plants adjust their photosynthetic activity to environmental conditions by various regulatory mechanisms. A part of our research projects is devoted to the study of regulations, in particular those related to gas transport in plant leaves (in particular CO2) and to photosynthetic alternative electron transport pathways in chloroplasts of vascular plants. Moreover, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are inevitably produced during photosynthesis, and our research projects are also focused on the antioxidant systems that protect the photosynthetic apparatus against ROS toxicity. In this context, we are interested in understanding the ROS-linked signaling pathways that induce changes in gene expression and lead to acclimation to photooxidative stress conditions. Another oxidative stress-dependent signaling pathway, involving a typical lipoxygenase of the guard cells and that contributes to plant innate immunity is also explored in our laboratory.

Our experimental strategy is multidisciplinary, and we used a combination of biochemical, molecular, genetic, biophysical and imaging approaches which are necessary for integrative physiology. Most of our studies are performed on the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana.
