Detoxification of superoxide without production of H2O2. Superoxide reductase, a metalloenzyme with ferrocyanide cofactor

Until now, only two different enzyme systems have been described to detoxify superoxide radical in the cells. This is the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and superoxide reductase (SOR). The results obtained by researchers at our institute bring a totally new light on the cellular mechanisms of detoxification of the superoxide radical.
