A balanced polyglutamylation of tubulin for neuronal survival

The polyglutamylases are enzymes that add the side chains of glutamic acids to proteins after their synthesis in the cell. In collaboration with other laboratories, researchers at the Pathophysiology of Cytoskeleton group have discovered the enzyme family that removes these proteins modifications. Their work also highlight the essential role of the polyglutamylation of microtubules tubulin in neuronal survival and thus improve the understanding of many neurodegenerative diseases.
