Research Laboratory and open facility for radiation biology with Accelerated Ions - LARIA

Published on 24 May 2019

LARIA logo.jpgTeam from LARIA (research laboratory and open facility for radiation biology with accelerated ions) studies healthy tissues and tumor responses to unconventional radiation therapy (hadron biology). By engineering tridimensional models, LARIA develop relevant models for healthy tissues fate or tumor control analysis in physioxic conditions.

Located in Caen (Normandie, France) on GANIL (Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds) campus,  LARIA is also an open facility for french or foreign research team involved in radiation biology. LARIA operate the CIRIL radiation biology experimental plateform jointly with CIMAP (UMR 6252, CEA DSM – CNRS – ENSICAEN – Université de Caen Basse Normandie).

Laboratory Research Axes
  • Development of models of three-dimensional cell cultures for hadronbiology in physioxy.
  • Direct and indirect cellular effects of RX and ion beam GANIL TEL between 30 and 120 keV/µm.
  • Integration Archade research center for the development of a radiobiology research team.
  • Transposition in vivo (graft) models of three-dimensional cell cultures.
  • Radiobiology proton: where possible, medical beams (Orsay, Nice) and platforms (Lyon, Strasbourg).
  • Radiobiology 12C: where possible, medical beams Heidelberg, Pavia & Chiba and GANIL beams.
  • Radiobiology in vitro & in vivo proton and carbon ion with the cyclotron C400 Archade supra beams.
To carry out its missions, the LARIA has access to various scientific infrastructure

  • The high lines (IRABAT) and average (IRASME) energies of the Grand National Heavy Ion Accelerator (GANIL).
  • The irradiator X (225 kV) Rec-Hadron (Equipex) Jules Horowitz Campus.
  • The National Infrastructure in Biology and Health France Hadron.
  • Proteomics and microscopy platforms of the University of Caen Basse-Normandie.
  • The University Biological Resource Centre at the University of Caen Basse-Normandie.
  • Cytometry platform of the Centre François Baclesse.
