The joint research unit "UMR 7265" (CEA - CNRS - Aix Marseille Univ.) conducts research to better understand the bioenergetic processes and mechanisms of response to environmental conditions, to propose new energy and environmental solutions for achieving sustainable development. Research activities are divided into three areas: i) energy bioconversion processes in photosynthetic and microbial organisms, ii) molecular mechanisms of perception of the environment in connection with cellular energy storage mechanisms, iii ) environmental resources for energy and sustainable development.
This multidisciplinary research is supported by two technological platforms: HélioBiotec for the biotechnology of microalgae, and Phytotech, recognized as an IBISA platform, for plant experiments under controlled conditions. Research at the frontiers of science is accompanied by a strong willingness to exploit the research results for value creation process and to foster regional economic partnership through the poles of competitiveness CAPENERGIES, MER-Méditerranée RISQUES, TERRALIA and EUROBIOMED in different fields ranging from agronomy or environmental monitoring to the industrial use of microalgae.
CEA is a French government-funded technological research organisation in four main areas: low-carbon energies, defense and security, information technologies and health technologies. A prominent player in the European Research Area, it is involved in setting up collaborative projects with many partners around the world.
