What happens during a laser pulse in an area of a few microns and during a timeframe of a billionth of a billionth of a second. With the support of two ERC grants in this field, Fabien Quéré has been investigating for about ten years how to master these machines that concentrate energy in both time and space. The goal is to be in capacity to master the laser pulses in order to control the movement of high energy particles with light, and thus discover new effects for, in the long term, new applications for the industry, medecine and particle physics.
CEA is a French government-funded technological research organisation in four main areas: low-carbon energies, defense and security, information technologies and health technologies. A prominent player in the European Research Area, it is involved in setting up collaborative projects with many partners around the world.
