Through its expertise, as a collective and collaborative skills forum, the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) is a major player in education and training and for the nuclear sector in the United Kingdom. NSAN’s mission is to improve the performance of companies in the nuclear industry through collaboration and action on skills development. NSAN works with companies and training providers from across the nuclear industry – both civil and defence, to provide support and solutions to the skills issues experienced by those committed to the successful delivery of the planned (UK) nuclear programme.

There is a clear parallel between the missions of INSTN and NSAN’s leading to a natural interest in developing close relations, going beyond good intentions, through a global strategic agreement in order to implement concrete actions. It is for this reason that an agreement between the two organisations was signed in March 2017. The launch event provided an opportunity for INSTN and NSAN to celebrate the signing of the Agreement and to discuss the first major actions related to this collaboration.

For both organisations, the main objectives of the Agreement are focused on the setting up of joint actions in the field of education and training for the nuclear sectors in the UK and France One of the outcomes from the agreement will be the development of a joint quality standard for skills provision and training that can be applied in both France and the UK, facilitating the movement and recognition of training and therefore personnel between the two countries.

Both organisations are keen to pursue collaborative international projects and will look to facilitate further links to other skills, education and training bodies in Britain and France as the relationship progresses.
