On May 12 and 13, the CEA welcomed a delegation from VTT, the Finnish Technical Research Centre, at its Saclay site for a high-level meeting between Anne-Isabelle Etienvre, CEO of the CEA, and Kalle Härkki, President and CEO of VTT.

This annual meeting was aimed to review ongoing collaborations and identify new joint opportunities in several strategic areas:

  • nuclear energy, including SMRs,
  • hydrogen and electrolysis,
  • semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology,
  • defence innovation,
  • circular economy and low-carbon energy systems,
  • health and in vitro diagnostics.

Partners for over twenty years, the CEA and VTT are currently collaborating on more than fifty European projects, notably under Horizon Europe and Euratom.

This cooperation shows the central role of European strategic alliances for accelerating innovation in sectors where scientific, technological, and industrial sovereignty are at stake.

This meeting was also marked by the signing of an amendment that extends the framework cooperation agreement between the two organizations. This amendment aims to open new avenues of collaboration in the fields of quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, and microelectronics.
