Creation of an International Associated Laboratory between France (Grenoble) and Brazil (Campinas)

Friday July 12th, an agreement was signed to create an ‘International Associated Laboratory’ (laboratoire international associé, or ‘LIA’) involving the French Institut de Biologie Structurale in Grenoble (IBS – CNRS / CEA / UJF) and the Brazilian LNBio and CNPEM from Campinas.

Named "BACWALL", this LIA will study the assembly and structure of macromolecular complexes that participate in the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall and in virulence. The study of the mechanisms that form the bacterial cell wall could allow significant advances in the understanding of bacterial virulence, and thus the development of new antibiotherapies.
