From innovative models to industrial applications: advancing organoids and organ-on-a-chip technologies

On September 29, the CEA hosted a dedicated event on organoids and organ-on-a-chip technologies—one of its key strategic focuses in the health sector.
The workshop provided a great opportunity for CEA-Irig and CEA-Leti to showcase their latest advances to industry representatives, share insights from their recent research, and present their future research directions.

Four key themes were addressed:

- Perfusion & monitoring of O&OoC: Real-time monitoring of biological-on-a-chip models.

- From microfluidics to advanced microsystems: Instrumented and industrially scalable microfluidics for healthcare and NAMs (New Approach Methodologies).

- Organoid engineering: Organoid engineering for more mature 3D models that better representing physiopathology.

- Biomaterials and innovative matrices: The crucial role of biomaterials in the design of innovative matrices and alternatives to Matrigel.

In this expanding field, where each breakthrough opens up new possibilities for the evaluation and development of safer and more effective drugs, CEA reaffirms its commitment to a national strategy in partnership with the CNRS and Inserm through the “Organs and Organoids on Chips" (MED-OOC) research program, funded as part of the France 2030 plan.

These innovations are part of an initiative with a high societal impact, addressing critical major challenges related to technological sovereignty and industrial competitiveness. Organoids and organoids-on-a-chip represent a strategic focus area for the CEA, at the heart of the future of healthcare.
