Johanna Fischer received EMA 2025 Young Scientist Award

The European Magnetic Association 2025 Young Scientist Award has been awarded to Johanna Fischer (SPINTEC) in recognition of her contributions to the field of multiferroics and magnetic skyrmions. With her combined theoretical and experimental perspective, she has demonstrated a clear vision for advancing topological spin textures towards real-world applications.
The award ceremony took place on 27 August 2025 at the JEMS European Conference in Frankfurt.

Johanna Fischer received the 2025 EMA Young Scientist Award for her work on magnetization textures in magnetic, antiferromagnetic and multiferroic materials, their manipulation by electric fields and currents, and their applications.

Johanna has been awarded for her early career: in 2017, she obtained a Master's degree from the German Walter-Meißner-Institut at the University of Munich; in 2020, she obtained the PhD for her joint work at CNRS and the Thalès industry in Orsay (now the Albert Fert laboratory); then she completed a post-doctorate at the SPINTEC laboratory, where she has held the position of Chargée de Recherche CNRS since 2022.

Johanna Fischer is currently conducting research into magnetic skyrmions, which are attracting a great deal of interest because they could be used in spintronics to store and process information on a nanometric scale. Skyrmions are localised spin 'textures' that can wind in two opposite directions, known as chiralities.
