Graduated from École Normale Supérieure de Paris-Saclay with a degree in physics and holding a Ph.D. in particle physics, Anne-Isabelle Etienvre has a strong scientific and managerial experience within the CEA. She directed the Particle Physics Service starting in 2014, then Institute of research into the fundamental laws of the Universe (Irfu) from 2016 to 2022. She also served as a research advisor to the Minister in charge of research before becoming the Director of Fundamental Research Division at the CEA in 2023.
She aims to strengthen the CEA's ties with the academic world while promoting its openness to society and industry and reinforcing the organization's European position.
Her programmatic priorities include:
- Defense, by continuing the CEA's key role in nuclear deterrence and dual-use research;
- strengthening the CEA’s role in the revival of nuclear energy and continuing R&D for other forms of decarbonized energy;
- mastering digital technologies;
- developing technologies for the medicine of the future;
- maintaining excellence in fundamental research, which permeates the entire organization.
Very committed to social dialogue and serene management, she emphasizes rigorous management in a constrained budgetary context, while fostering a strong collective spirit and enhanced internal communication. The promotion of women in scientific careers, from a young age, is also among her commitments.
Anne-Isabelle Etienvre succeeds François Jacq, who was appointed President of the CNES in May 2025. Her appointment marks an important step for the CEA, which thus commits to continuing its missions of scientific excellence, technological innovation, and service to society, in a context of international competition and major societal challenges.
