On 15 October 2025, the French Embassy in Rome hosted the conference “Franco-Italian scientific cooperation: a pillar of the future of the nuclear industry", organized by the CEA. France and Italy, along with Great Britain, were pioneers in Europe in the development of nuclear energy for electricity production. Beginning in the 1950s for the production of radioisotopes, cooperation between the CEA and its Italian partners continued over the following decades, particularly in the areas of new reactor technologies and the nuclear fuel cycle as well as in physics of particles.
During this conference, French and Italian researchers, industrialists and institutional leaders addressed two major themes during round table discussions :
- How research can support the revival of the nuclear industry,
- How to revitalize the sector to meet talent needs.
In closing, Anne-Isabelle Etienvre, Chairman of the CEA emphasized the historical depth and future momentum of Franco-Italian cooperation, in the presence of M. Nicola Ippolito (Head of Nuclear Division, Ministry of Environment and Energy Security) and M. Guillaume Bouyt (General Directorate for Energy and Climate, French ministry in charge of energy).
