Recalling France's commitment to the universalization and the implementation of the IAEA safeguards system, Mr Jacq stressed that "the Vienna Agreement on Iran nuclear programme (JCPOA) is an essential tool for non-proliferation and security, which France remains committed to preserve". He also called on Member States to "contribute to strengthening the culture of nuclear safety and security, as well as the mutual trust between States".
Attending his first General Conference, Mr. Jacq held some fifteen bilateral meetings with heads of delegation and senior officials, including US Minister of Energy Rick Perry. He also had the opportunity to sign an ICERR agreement (International CEntres based on Research Reactors) between the CEA and the United Arab Emirates regulator (FANR), and to execute a Memorandum of Understanding between the CEA and Atomic Energy Agency of Canada (AECL). These two Agreements mark the CEA's willingness to support the ambition of the UAE on the one hand, and of Canada on the other hand, to promote nuclear energy as a key lever for sustainable development and for fighting against climate change.
Additionally, Mr Jacq was happy to usher the 8th edition of the French boot which contributes to promote year after year the French nuclear expertise carried out by the CEA and many more French industrial and institutional stakeholders wishing to grow worlwide partnerships. The General Conference also gave an opportunity to present the new French nuclear industry landscape after its refoundation process that has now been completed.
