The 7th meeting of the Japan-France Nuclear Cooperation Committee, held in Tokyo on November 21st, 2017


The 7th France-Japan Nuclear Cooperation Committee was held on November 21st 2017 in Tokyo under the joint chairmanship of Daniel Verwaerde, General Administrator of the CEA, and Tomoyuki Yoshida, Ambassador, Director-General, Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The participants exchanged views on their respective nuclear energy policies, nuclear safety cooperation, back-end of the fuel cycle including the spent fuel management, final waste management and repository, nuclear research and development including fast neutron reactors, decommissioning and decontamination, as well as industrial cooperation. The participants also highly appreciated the Japan-France cooperation in the area of civil nuclear energy and their intention to further strengthening it.
 
As reminded in the letter of intent signed by the Ministers in charge of energy of both countries on March 20th, 2017, the Committee shared views on how to jointly promote global development of nuclear energy and deployment of nuclear related technologies under the highest standards of safety, security and non-proliferation.
 
The next meeting will be held in 2018 in France.
