French Presidency of the EU Council: the CEA engaged in the main strategic priorities for technology in Europe

France is holding the presidency of the EU Council since 1 January to 30 June 2022. The CEA is ready and waiting to contribute to the success of this presidency, in line with the watchwords chosen to reflect this period: recovery, strength and a sense of belonging.

Published on 16 February 2022

These words were chosen by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, to embody Europe’s key priorities: cooperation, sovereignty and strength to speed up the green and digital transitions by 2030 and to stimulate economic recovery. France is pledging for Europe’s technological sovereignty and the relocation of its flagship industries in Europe, such as in the fields of hydrogen production, batteries, semiconductors, space, cloud infrastructure technologies, defence and healthcare. These technology-intensive fields will not only shape our world in 2030, but also stimulate economic recovery, value creation and job growth. These subjects are the focus of the CEA’s activities.

Europe’s objective to become carbon neutral by 2050 will be one of the French Presidency’s key focus areas, starting with the carbon border adjustment mechanism to reconcile industrial ambitions with its climate goals. Faced with the current geopolitical instability in Europe, France also intends to defend a joint European defence and deterrence strategy, having published a specific white paper. The CEA will contribute to the public debate organised on a European level and will provide its support in all these key areas.

During this 6-month presidency, the CEA will regularly organise and/or take part in events that reflect France’s priorities, bringing together representatives from French and European institutes, research organisations, political spheres, French and European universities, and the industry. The programme of events organised under the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union - Présidence française de l'Union européenne (PFUE) is detailed below.

Events organised or jointly organised by the CEA
