Research activities
The research projects of J. P. Attané focus on new ways to change the orientation of magnetization using currents, which could lead to new generations of spintronic devices. These projects can be divided in two parts. The first part is focused on the interaction of polarized currents with the magnetization, and includes :
The direct injection of spin-polarized currents to induce domain wall motion
New ways to detect the magnetization reversal, based on the discovery of the Magnon magnetoresistance

The second part consists in generating, detecting and using pure spin currents, which corresponds to the case where up and down spins goes along opposite directions, whereas there is no charge current. Such currents might allow the development of a new spintronics without ferromagnets. This second part involves :
The development of all-metallic lateral spin-valves, to generate pure spin currents
The study of the Spin-Hall effect and of the Rashba effect, in nanostructure and by spin-pumping
The generation and detection of pure spin currents using domain walls

Short CV
J. P. Attané obtained his PhD in Solid State Physics from Grenoble Alpes University (France) in 2003, on the topic of magnetization reversal in thin layers with perpendicular anisotropy. After a post-doc in Burkard Hillebrand’s group at Kaiserslautern University (from 2003 to 2004), he has been recruited in 2004 as Assistant Professor (Maitre de Conférences) at Grenoble Alpes University.

Since his recruitment in 2004, he developped a research team whose activities focus on the study of domain-wall propagation in nanostructures, and of spin-dependent transport phenomena in nanostructures. He is now leading this team, which in the recent years was composed of around 6-8 full-time equivalent people.

His scientific work awarded him to be admitted in 2011 as a member of the "Institut Universitaire de France", and he obtained his "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches" in 2012. Beyond physics, his professional center of interests are musicology, law and economics.

Job offers
We are currently looking for PhD students or M2 internships (eventually M1 internships) on the two following subjects :
• Spin Hall effect, Rashba effect and absorption of pure spin currents
• Interplay between spin currents and domain walls in lateral nanostructures
Please feel free to contact us.
