Improvements to the technology are proceeding at an impressive pace. The CEA and 3SUN had already presented first-class results in April 2022 with 24.9%, then in December 2022 with 25.8% and 26.5% in March 2023, for the same PIN architecture tandem cell on 9cm² with shading correction.The 9 cm² device has a Voc above 1900 mV.
The race for PIN-architecture Si/PK tandem cells with efficiencies over 30% on large surfaces is in full gear. The teams look forward to presenting further exciting results.
Perovskite (PK) materials have been shaking up the solar scientific and industrial community since the discovery of their photovoltaic properties in 2012. These materials represent an opportunity for a major technological breakthrough, opening the way for photovoltaic cells to achieve conversion efficiencies above 30%, with little additional cost, by combining them with a lower band-gap material such as silicon (Si). Scientific and technical progress is rapid in this field, with a certified world record currently held by KAUST Solar Center at 33.7% over 1 cm² and announced by Stefaan de Wolf this 6th of June during the Tandem Workshop 2023 in Chambéry Savoie.
