Digital technology enables real-time demand-side energy management, the use of grid flexibility solutions, and increased integration of renewable energy.

Liten's "smart energy systems" strategy addresses the unique characteristics and constraints of each scale in these multi-scale systems.

At system-level, Liten's research factors in issues like the energy mix and, given the intermittent nature of renewable energy and the different time horizons addressed, the notion of grid service level objectives.

  • Dimensioning of PV systems (renvoi page système PV) to support frequency regulation.

  • Selection of architectures and components that ensure optimal grid stability.


At the local level, with PV power plants, possibly coupled with other production sources or with battery-based and/or hydrogen energy storage.

  • Hybrid renewable energy/battery systems.

  • Off-grid systems combining solar energy and generators.


At the intersection between local grids and distribution networks.

  • Smart charging and collective solar charging station management.
  • Energy management at neighborhood level and convergence with urban heat networks.

Liten research is focusing on:

  • The design of modeling and simulation tools that can be used to develop architectures and dimension components, possibly using proprietary databases.
  • The implementation of predictive management tools leveraging real-time optimization algorithms.
  • The development of an information system to serve as a communication and data management interface and to troubleshoot and evaluate system performance.

These tools, designed as enablers, are validation tested on a pilot grid (either on physical components or emulators) before they are rolled out in real-world environments.
