Hypertension impacts 1.28 billion people worldwide and is a major cause of premature death worldwide. To monitor patients on a continuous basis, CEA-Leti is developing a wearable device to measure blood pressure without needing the inflatable cuff used by current blood pressure monitors.
CEA-Leti developed a new radar technology that could enable low-power, high-performance on-chip radar transceivers for the contactless measurement of vital signs for automotive in-cabin systems and medical devices. The technology is sensitive enough to generate a human heartbeat profile from surface micro-vibrations of the thorax.
