By launching the NextGen project, CEA aims to develop new generations of FD-SOI chips with better energy efficiency. It will ensure the capacity to engineer the most advanced components and maintain French and European microelectronics competitive for the future markets.

The EuroHPC European Joint Undertaking today announced that it has selected the project for the future European Exascale supercomputer, led in France by the Jules Verne consortium, which brings together France, represented by the Grand Equipement National de Calcul Intensif (GENCI) as hosting entity, in collaboration with CEA as hosting site, and the Netherlands, represented by SURF, the Dutch national supercomputing centre.
Neuroscientists and neurosurgeons from EPFL/CHUV/UNIL and CEA/CHUGA/UGA report in the journal Nature that they have re-established the communication between the brain and spinal cord with a wireless digital bridge, allowing a paralyzed person to walk again naturally.

On April 5, the European Patent Office (EPO) published its annual report, the Patent Index 2021, an innovation barometer listing worldwide patent applications on the European market. The CEA is the only French research organization in the top 50, ranking 35th with 528 patent applications filed with the EPO in 2021. In the field of semiconductors, the CEA is the only European player in the top 5.

High-level experts from around the world will discuss progress towards achieving energy production from nuclear fusion at an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting next week. The 28th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference (FEC) will take place virtually from 10 to 15 May. It is organized by the IAEA and co-hosted by the ITER Organization and the Government of France through the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

In March 2021, France has joined the NICE Future international initiative, where it will be represented by the General Directorate for Energy and Climate of the Ministry of Ecological Transition. CEA will bring its expertise.
