Scientific result

​This work, stemming from a collaboration between researchers from Imperial College London and an SB2SM Research Team, resolved a long-standing ambiguity about the redox potential (Em) value of the primary quinone, QA, of the Photosystem II (PSII). In addition, the authors discovered a new and very important phenomenon for the PSII: a reversible control effect of the redox potential of QA induced by binding of bicarbonate.

Scientific result

A Reseach Team of the SB2SM, specialist in structural and predictive bioinformatics, collaborates with a Team from the Institute of Molecular Biology of Plants (Strasbourg) to study the mechanisms of the evolution of a metabolic pathway from a cytochrome P450 retroposition in Brassicaceae. This work shows how a gene duplication can favor the emergence of new metabolic functions, whose key residues of the active site can be identified by homology modeling.

Ce travail, issu d’une collaboration entre des chercheurs de l’Imperial College London et une équipe du SB2SM, a résolu une ambigüité de longue date au sujet de la valeur du potentiel redox (Em) de la quinone primaire, QA, du Photosystème II (PSII). De plus, les auteurs ont découvert un nouveau phénomène très important pour le PSII : un effet de contrôle réversible du potentiel redox de QA induit par liaison de bicarbonate.
