Cellular senescence is a stress response of mammalian cells leading to a stable proliferative arrest associated with a characteristic transcriptome including the expression of inflammatory genes. We study cellular senescence as a tumor suppressor mechanism that may also contribute to aging.
Our group conducts research in the field of computational biology and chemistry. In particular, we apply theoretical techniques (such as classical and quantum Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations) to develop models and software for studying challenging biophysical phenomena closely related to biophysics and biology.
The main interest of this group concerns the structure and physico-chemical properties of membrane proteins involved in the primary phase of light energy conversion, both in photosynthesis and, more recently, in human vision.
Our research centers on identifying and characterizing noncovalent molecular interactions underlying biological assemblies, particularly viruses and their replication complexes and self-assembled peptide architectures. Our expertise covers a broad range of structural biology and physical-chemical methods (biochemistry, X-ray crystallography, infrared and Raman spectroscopies, NMR, SAXS, molecular modeling and molecular dynamics simulations, electron and light microscopies).
The LSOD includes researchers characterizing the molecular mechanisms of stress-related proteins (hemoproteins, flavoproteins and metalloproteins) or detoxification (cytochromes P450, glutathione S-transferase, P-glycoprotein), using biochemical, enzymological, biophysical and bioinformatics techniques.
