A haptic interface is a new type of man-machine interface, which allows the user to interact with the environment using his/her sense of touch.Integrated piezoelectric actuators make the demonstrator screen vibrate imperceptibly based on a vibration mode of several tens of kHz. Vibration allows the user to feel complex haptic effects such as texturing or relief.The piezoelectric actuators are composed of 2µm thick, aluminum nitride (AIN) deposited in ultra-thin layers.
Less invasive than traditional needles, micro-needles reach the deep layers of the epidermis to deliver drugs, measure physiological characteristics, or send light to specific wavelengths. CEA-Leti has developed and qualified a new technology of biocompatible polymer micro-needles, ranging in length from 250 μm to 3 mm. Directly applicable to the skin, multiple assembly can cover several square centimeters.

Building on its thermal infrared bolometric technology, CEA-Leti developed smart detectors that enable THz real-time imaging in the most effective way, similar to visible-light digital cameras. CEA-Leti’s THz imaging technology is unique. It relies on a patented bolometer architecture in which optical collection is provided by crossed bow-tie antennas combined with a quarterwavelength dielectric cavity.
