The widespread adoption of electric vehicles will require manufacturers to integrate smart capabilities into vehicle batteries. Researchers at CEA Tech institute Liten are developing sensors and measurement systems and installing them in test vehicles without disrupting vehicle operation. These tests provide data used in aging models to obtain more reliable gauges of performance and develop energy-management strategies for batteries.
This research leverages the electric mobility platform, which boasts a comprehensive range of equipment, from motor test bench to solar-powered charging stations and instrumentation. The tests carried out on this equipment are rounded out by the continuous tracking of a fleet of some 30 vehicles, providing valuable feedback.
ALL TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS
A first-ever proof-of-concept of a 1 kW PEMFC stack made with printed components was recently completed. The technology is implemented using continuous processes, which reduces costs. However, it also promises to boost power densities.

A characterization method using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was developed to observe the formation of metal lithium in the electrodes of lithium-ion elements during operation. The insights gained will be used to extend electrode lifespans.
