Speeding innovation for industry
The Covid-19 lockdown profoundly changed people's exercise habits, with online fitness programs becoming more popular than ever. People are now looking for new "connected" exercise experiences. Moovlab is ideally positioned to take advantage of this new and growing market demand with its turnkey system designed to help gyms boost customer loyalty by making every workout more fun.
The wearable system, protected by ten CEA-Leti patents, leverages a sensor-based performance-measurement and exercise-recognition technology. Inertial measurement units with embedded algorithms worn on the user's wrists recognize activity (boxing and other exercises) and measure performance. The sensors communicate with a terminal that saves users' workout data. Users select a circuit made up of body weight exercises recommended for their individual goals (weight loss, training for an athletic event); performance is evaluated in real time during each workout and over time. From one workout to the next, users can track their progress and choose different circuits.
The product was first developed in 2016 and is now being released on the market. A proof-of-concept prototype is currently being tested by two customers: the KeepCool and Unik gym franchises, both of which confirmed their interest in the future product during the Covid-19 lockdown.
CEA is a French government-funded technological research organisation in four main areas: low-carbon energies, defense and security, information technologies and health technologies. A prominent player in the European Research Area, it is involved in setting up collaborative projects with many partners around the world.
