Liten has set its sights on solutions to make the technologies being developed for tomorrow's low-carbon energy systems more sustainable. The institute is developing innovative processes capable of addressing new reserves of materials and, specifically, mining waste and spent electronic components. The goal is to recycle the most critical materials in such a way as to limit environmental impacts and, more broadly, address the entire value chain from design, extraction, and use to end-of-life, recycling, and reuse in low-carbon energy applications.
The adoption of solar photovoltaic power will expand in proportion to improvements in module yields. Liten research on the INES (France's solar energy research institute) campus covers the entire PV component value chain, from material and cell to module and system.
The diversification of solar photovoltaic energy into high-added-value applications represents a major opportunity to address new markets.
To bring PV solar energy production costs down, PV systems architectures will need to be optimized and converters to enable effective coupling with the grid developed. Monitoring and forecasting software will also be required.
Heat networks have the capacity to provide cost-effective heating to residential buildings and make industrial facilities more energy-efficient.
