Miniaturization, integration and energy efficiency are key drivers of modern photonics

Photonics has evolved from a niche activity into a Key Enabling Technology and is now heralded as one of the most important industries of the Optics and Photonics activities at CEA-i focus mainly on major industrial markets for these technologies including:
  • All-wavelength imaging (visible, infrared, THz)
  • Information displays
  • Solid-state lighting
  • Optical data communications
  • Optical environmental sensors
Similarly to microelectronics, the principal criteria driving CEA-Leti's photonic developments are miniaturization, integration and energy efficiency. Following its internal roadmaps, CEA-Leti develops photonic technologies, devices and systems addressing society's major challenges, more specifically innovative and secure society, resource efficiency and well-being. Our R&D projects merge fundamental research with advanced technological and industrial developments. We interrelate nanoscience with material sciences, optics, electronics and o fabrication.
