The Internet of Things (IoT) will play a crucial role in smart grids by providing the means to monitor information on demand from the grid, energy bills, and consumption habits and peaks—all essential to balancing supply and demand predictably and in real time.
Data is gathered by sensors positioned on transportation networks, the grid, and at consumers’ premises via smart meters. The information is analyzed at macro level and useful information on grid status is extracted. CEA Tech research addresses multiple issues, from developing sensors to data processing and storage systems with the overall objective of providing the necessary tools to optimize electricity production and consumption.
A testing platform based on the sensiNact software environment was developed under the FESTIVAL project. The platform provides access to data collected from a variety of experimental sources.
The EU-backed FED4SAE project, coordinated by Leti, a CEA Tech institute, recently kicked off. The goal? To shorten time-to-market in Europe for solutions leveraging cyber-physical systems (CPS).
