In 2022, the European Defence Fund (EDF) launched a call for proposals for a framework partnership supporting a European alliance in the field of medical countermeasures (antidotes, vaccines, diagnostic tests). In May 2023, RESILIENCE—a unique strategic European alliance—was selected by the EDF as part of this call.
Its objective is to create a European ecosystem that facilitates collaboration for the research and development of innovative technologies in the field of medical countermeasures against current and future NRBC threats.
RESILIENCE is coordinated by the CEA and brings together no fewer than 95 partners from around twenty EU Member States, as well as Norway. From 2023 to 2026, RESILIENCE will annually fund research and development projects led by alliance members. The entire €100 million budget allocated by the EDF is dedicated to financing the selected projects.
The funded themes cover diagnosis, prevention, prophylaxis, and treatment of diseases related to exposure to NRBC threats.
The coordination of the RESILIENCE alliance is ensured by CEA-Joliot, while the coordination of all funded projects is the responsibility of the CEA-Joliot and CEA-Jacob institutes.
RESILIENCE complements the COUNTERACT project, co-funded by the EDF and coordinated by CEA-Jacob, with the participation of laboratories from both the Jacob and Joliot institutes.
