Given the increasing use of ionizing radiation for medical procedures, including radiography and radiotherapy, it is urgent to characterize the response of stem cells to radiation, especially after low dose exposure.
Our team investigates the mechanisms of maintenance of genomic stability in neural stem cells. Our research is primarily focused on double strand break DNA repair and cell cycle control, as well as on the importance of the microenvironment in neurogenic niches. We are interested in deciphering the crosstalk between the DNA damage response of neural stem cells and the intrinsic or extrinsic factors regulating neural stem functions and their consequences for brain development, cognitive abilities and behavior.
Because the so-called glioma stem-like cells share lots of properties and characteristics with neural stem cells, we also investigate whether common traits of DNA damage response are involved in the resistance to radiation of glioblastoma.
CEA is a French government-funded technological research organisation in four main areas: low-carbon energies, defense and security, information technologies and health technologies. A prominent player in the European Research Area, it is involved in setting up collaborative projects with many partners around the world.
