Bioinformatics analyses for genomics and metabolism

LABGeM is a bioinformatics group which addresses comparative genomic analysis and the metabolism of prokaryotic organisms. The main research fields addressed by LABGeM are bacterial (meta)genomics (statistics applied to genomic data, dynamics and evolution of bacterial genomes, analysis of genes of unknown function) and bacterial metabolism (prediction, curation and comparison of metabolic networks, investigation for 'orphan' candidate genes for enzymatic activities for sequencing).

With a view to conducting those analyses, a platform for the annotation and comparative analysis of prokaryotic genomes has been set up:  the MicroScope platform. The IT infrastructure incorporates the data (genomes, automated and expert annotations, analytical results and experimental data) and Web graphic interfaces enabling exploration of the data and use of the methodological tools regularly incorporated in the platform. LABGeM thus also has considerable commitment to bioinformatics development for the structural, functional and relational annotation of genomes, analysis of NGS data on the applications of re-sequencing (variant detection) and analysis of transcriptomic data (RNA-Seq), design of genomic and metabolic database models and the setup of WEB servers enabling access to the methods and databases.

In January 2012, the activities of the Department and Research & Development at LABGeM were certified ISO 9001:2008. The MicroScope platform has been labeled IBiSA (Infrastructures in Biology, Health and Agronomics) and belongs to the major national infrastructures France Génomique and the Institut Français de Bioinformatique.
