Klaudia Galant, a doctoral candidate in DRCM, received the 2025 Solemn Thesis Prize in Medicine (Cancer Research Category) from the Chancellery of the Universities of Paris for her thesis defended in October 2024.
Under the supervision of Françoise Pflumio in DRCM, Klaudia Galant devoted her doctoral research to understanding the early onset of a rare and aggressive form of pediatric leukemia driven by the ETO2::GLIS2 genetic fusion.
Her work demonstrated that different human fetal cells respond differently to this genetic abnormality, in part under the influence of signals produced by their microenvironment. These findings enabled the proposal of a new therapeutic strategy that proved effective in preclinical models. Published in Molecular Cancer in October 2024, these results help shed light on why this leukemia arises in very young children and how certain signals may influence treatment efficacy
