Short abstract:

Knowing when a significant event will appear, or be available, gives an organism the possibility to prepare in time and act accordingly, but also to detect changes in temporal contingencies and adapt flexibly. I will present a series of experiments in rats showing that temporal expectation of a significant event engages coherent neural activities within a large network. The role that the amygdala may play in orchestrating this network and controlling flexible temporal expectancy will be discussed.
