Decoding Cortical Microcircuits with High-Resolution Laminar MEG

Du 31/03/2025 au 31/03/2025
NeuroSpin amphitheater + Zoom

Talk from  Jimmy J Bonaiuto  – Institut des Sciences Cognitives Marc Jeannerod, Lyon

Short abstract:

Laminar MEG is an emerging technique that leverages high-precision magnetoencephalography to non-invasively resolve depth-specific cortical activity. In this talk, I introduce the concept of laminar MEG and present laMEG—a versatile toolbox that constructs source spaces with an arbitrary number of equidistant cortical surfaces, moving beyond previously used deep-versus-superficial models. I will demonstrate how, with sufficient signal quality and minimal co-registration error, this approach can accurately reconstruct intermediate laminar activity. Pilot results from human data reveal laminar patterns of activity in visual and motor event-related fields (ERFs) that align with expected neurophysiological signatures, underscoring the potential of laminar MEG to bridge the gap between invasive electrophysiology and non-invasive neuroimaging.
